Therapists for college students near 02467
Many of us experience stress and anxiety on a daily basis. While sometimes we feel in control of these emotions, other times it can feel like they are controlling us. Whether you are dealing with day-to-day stressors, or those brought on by major life transitions, learning how to identify and manage the feelings you experience can be vital to having happy, healthy relationships with others and with yourself. It’s my belief that each individual is the expert on themselves. My role in sessions is to be curious and work with you to explore challenges, experiences, and emotions. Through this exploration we can create a “tool box” of skills and strategies that work best for you. I encourage you to reach out if you are interested in starting services. Finding a therapist who is right for you is important, and I am more than happy to answer any questions you may have!
Are you seemingly okay on the outside, but uncomfortable and anxious underneath? Do relationships with family, friends, or romantic partners feel stressful? Perhaps you are struggling to figure out your path in college or after graduation? It’s really hard to navigate relationships and decisions for yourself now, for the first time! I believe college and your 20s are the most important time where you can shape your future by learning about yourself. Often, you grow up not really knowing you are and who you want to be, and feel lost when you try to figure this out. I’d love to support you as you navigate this time by really listening and understanding you, providing non-judgmental guidance and empathy, and asking you helpful questions. I focus on issues with life transitions (yes college and graduation), self esteem, anxiety, interpersonal conflict and communication, dating, perfectionism, break-ups, and stress. Common goals include reducing anxiety, finding a suitable partner, building connection, stronger communication, creating healthy boundaries, finding purpose/career, managing life transitions, and increasing coping skills and confidence. My clients don't fill empty spots! This is my passion and you are so important to me; I remember details and strategize between sessions ensuring you receive the best care in return for your commitment to therapy.

I consider myself to be an eclectic therapist, taking into consideration the individuals uniqueness and needs before implementing techniques and strategies. PVD Psychological Associates (PVD Psych) is a private psychology practice on the East Side of Providence, Rhode Island. Our mission is to provide the greater Rhode Island area with exceptional therapy, offering cutting edge and research-supported treatment by a team of highly trained therapists. We offer therapy for adults, college students, and adolescents struggling with anxiety, school/career concerns, eating disorders, infertility and women's health issues, and relationship difficulties. PVD Psych is a LGBTQIA-affirmative practice, and is one of few Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island LGBTQ Safe Zone certified providers. We strongly believe that everyone has the right to respectful and affirming, high quality care. My areas of specialization and interest include: women's issues, depression, anxiety, stress management, and working with LGBTQIA-identified individuals and family members. I practice primarily from a relational-dynamic perspective, though I also incorporate techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and narrative approaches to address and tailor treatment to the unique and individual needs of each client. In my work as a therapist, I focus on understanding early experiences and how psychological well-being can be fostered through relationships. I believe change and healing come through relationships: our relationships with ourselves, as well as our relationships with others. I view therapy as a collaborative process that allows both therapist and client to grow and change. My clients describe me as an empathetic, active listener who approaches their concerns with caring, respect, pragmatism, and sometimes, humor. I'm honored that you're considering working with me and I would be happy to answer any questions that you may have. Please feel free to contact me.

“I want to feel happier and less depressed.” “We would like to improve our relationship.” “I would like to feel calmer and more in control, in spite of the stress, loss and trauma I have experienced.” “We want to help our children cope with our divorce.” “We need to figure out how we are going to live as a divorced family.” These are some of the most frequent goals of my clients as we work together. Many of the stresses and conflicts my clients face can be due to life’s experiences and losses or can come from within. Stress and conflict can lead to disintegration of relationships with our partners and our children, and even in how we view ourselves. Strengthening coping skills, emotional connection and intimacy can help repair fractures, increase compassionate understanding, and build closeness. Focusing on positive growth, shifting well-engrained patterns, and building greater self-acceptance can create lasting change and happiness. As a clinical psychologist with over 40 years of experience, I help adults, couples and families, by integrating many different therapeutic approaches to best fit my clients’ needs.
