I HOPE TO PROVIDE AN UNDERSTANDING, EMPATHETIC SPACE FOR YOU TO BRING YOUR CHALLENGES, WORRIES, OR FEARS. MY CORE BELIEF IS THAT EACH PERSON IS THE EXPERT OF THEIR OWN STORY AND THEREFORE HAS THE POWER WITHIN THEM FOR PRODUCTIVE GROWTH. SOMETIMES YOU JUST NEED SOME GENTLE GUIDANCE ALONG THE WAY AND THAT'S WHERE I COME IN! I UTILIZE MULTIPLE THERAPEUTIC TECHNIQUES AND CREATIVE INTERVENTIONS TO TAILOR EACH SESSION TO MEET YOUR UNIQUE NEEDS AT THAT MOMENT. SOME OF THESE TECHNIQUES MAY FOCUS ON WELLNESS, SYMPTOM TRACKING, AWARENESS, THOUGHT REFRAMING, ETC. I ALSO BELIEVE THAT A PERSON'S UNIQUE EXPERIENCES DEEPLY AFFECT THEM AND SO I OFTEN APPROACH COUNSELING THROUGH A TRAUMA-INFORMED LENS. THE THERAPEUTIC PROCESS IS A CONSTANTLY CHANGING JOURNEY THAT REQUIRES DIFFERENT PIECES AT EACH STAGE. I WILL BE WITH YOU ALONG THIS JOURNEY, THINKING OF CREATIVE WAYS TO ADDRESS YOUR NEEDS AND ALWAYS PROVIDING YOU WITH SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGEMENT.

Whether you're navigating relationship challenges, major life transitions, trauma, anxiety, or depression, I’m glad you’re here seeking support. Rather than focusing on happiness as a fixed goal, I help clients explore what fulfillment means in the context of their lives. Fulfillment allows space for the full range of emotional experiences supports a more honest, grounded way of engaging with yourself and the world. ClinicalApproach I bring a systems-oriented lens to our work together, considering how our early relationships and life experiences shape our current sense of self, the way we connect with others, and how we move through the world. My integrative approach draws from several evidence-based modalities including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT); and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) But above all, I'm client-centered. I've seen what happens when therapy gets too rigid or robotic, when the humanity of it gets lost. That’s not what you’ll get with me. I’ll use evidence-based methods and also meet you with honesty, care, and a good sense of when to push and when to pause.
Yihhsing Liu (䏿–‡: 劉懿馨; Pronouns: she/her/hers), Ph.D., LPC., NCC My clinical practice is informed by principles of humanistic psychology with the following focuses: psychodynamics, cultural relational theory, and trauma-focused framework. I work with individuals 18 years old and above who are struggling with depression or anxiety. I can support you to change behaviors to feel better, change patterns of thinking to improve your feelings, develop closer and more satisfying relationships, and much more. I use approaches that have been shown to be effective such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. As a professor at the University of Pittsburgh, I conducted research specific to the mental health of teenagers. I also have extensive experience working with LGBT individuals. Our first meeting would be a chance for me to really understand why you want therapy, for us to develop goals together (Note: My clients often begin developing goals by thinking about "If we are successful working together in therapy, how would you and your life be different?"), and for you to determine if therapy with me is a "good fit."
