Therapists for college students near University of Colorado Boulder
PEERSĀ® Denver offers parent/coach-assisted social skills programs for teens (ages 13-17) as well as young adults (ages 17-29). Developed at UCLA, the PEERSĀ® program is backed by extensive research showing positive and lasting results in the social lives of the teens and young adults who participate. The goal of the program is to teach skills that are essential for making and keeping friends (and in the young adult program, dating skills are also covered). Meetings are held for 90 minutes once per week over a 16-week period. Each week, the teens and young adults will learn a new set of skills in a particular topic area (for example, starting and maintaining conversations, joining group conversations, having get-togethers, etc.), and they will also get a chance to practice those skills through games, role plays, and other activities. Parents/coaches will meet all together in a separate group at the same time as the teens and young adults. Parents/coaches will learn the exact same skills as their teens and young adults, but they will get specific instruction in how to act as social coaches, so they can most effectively support their teen or young adult in practicing and applying the skills. Groups will be offered both virtually and in-person beginning in January of 2022. For a free 15-20 minute phone screen to learn more about whether this program is the right fit for you and your family, please call the Program Director, Dr. Jason Peirce, at 720-645-8827.

Hi, Iām Jose Mathew, DBH, LCSW, LAC, CCTP Iām the founder of Mountain Valley Behavioral Health, and I believe therapy works best when people feel safe, understood, and genuinely supported rather than judged or rushed into anything. Over the past decade, Iāve worked with individuals, couples, and families navigating anxiety, trauma, depression, substance use, burnout, relationship stress, and major life transitions. Many of the people I work with carry more than they show on the surface. They may feel emotionally exhausted, disconnected, overwhelmed, stuck in survival mode, or unsure where to begin. My role is to help create space to slow down, make sense of whatās happening, and work toward meaningful change together. My approach to therapy is collaborative, grounded, and practical. I donāt believe in a one-size-fits-all model. Every person has a unique story, stressors, and strengths. I work to understand the full pictureāincluding emotional health, nervous system regulation, trauma history, relationships, physical health, and daily stressāso treatment feels personalized and relevant to your life. I use an integrated, trauma-informed approach that combines evidence-based therapies with authentic human connection. Depending on your needs, our work may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, EMDR-informed interventions, mindfulness, nervous system regulation strategies, and practical tools to improve emotional balance, communication, and coping skills. I also understand that starting therapy can feel uncomfortable, especially if youāve spent a long time holding things together on your own. You do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out. Therapy is not about being ābroken.ā Itās about finding a place to process what youāve been carrying, better understand yourself, and build healthier ways to move forward. Whether youāre struggling with anxiety, trauma, stress, substance use, relationship challenges, or simply feeling overwhelmed by life, my goal is to help you feel supported, empowered, and more connected to yourself and others. Areas I Commonly Work With ⢠Trauma & PTSD ⢠Anxiety & Chronic Stress ⢠Depression & Emotional Burnout ⢠Substance Use & Recovery ⢠Co-Occurring Mental Health Concerns ⢠Relationship & Communication Challenges ⢠Family Conflict ⢠Nervous System Dysregulation ⢠Menās Mental Health ⢠Life Transitions & Identity Stress ⢠Integrated Behavioral Health Treatment Approaches ⢠Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) ⢠Trauma-Informed Therapy ⢠Motivational Interviewing ⢠EMDR-Informed Interventions ⢠Strengths-Based Therapy ⢠Mindfulness & Somatic Strategies ⢠Integrated Behavioral Health Care Credentials ⢠Doctor of Behavioral Health (DBH) ⢠Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) ⢠Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) ⢠Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) ⢠EMDR-Trained (EMDR-T) ⢠Certified Clinical Trauma Professional II (CCTP-II) A Final Thought I believe healing happens through connection, honesty, and learning to work with yourself rather than against yourself. Therapy is not about perfection; itās about creating sustainable change, improving quality of life, and helping you feel more grounded, present, and capable in your day-to-day life.
As a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), my work spans the full range of psychiatric care, from supporting individuals through acute mental health crises to helping people manage ongoing conditions like depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and ADHD. With experience in acute psychiatric settings, I understand how overwhelming severe symptoms can feel, and I'm here to help you find stability and a clearer path forward to improve your quality of life. My commitment is to treat the whole person, not just the diagnosis. Whether you're navigating a difficult season or working toward long-term health, I look forward to being a compassionate, collaborative partner in your care, supporting you as you work toward the goals that matter most to you. Rooted in psychopharmacology and evidence-based psychiatric care, my approach is warm, personalized, and built around you. Every treatment plan is shaped by your unique experiences, challenges, and goals because there's no one-size-fits-all path to recovery. You can always expect a collaborative environment where you feel heard, informed, and empowered to make meaningful decisions about your care. By combining evidence-based tools with a genuinely patient-centered perspective, I aim to help you find stability, build on your strengths, and move toward the kind of meaningful recovery that genuinely improves your quality of life. Growing up, I witnessed how difficult it could be for people to seek support when conversations about mental health were limited or misunderstood. That experience planted within me a deep desire to help change the narrative and shine a light on mental health in communities where stigma kept people from getting the care they deserved. It's what drew me to psychiatric nursing and what continues to drive me today. Alongside clinical expertise, I bring empathy and cultural sensitivity to every patient encounter, grounded in the belief that everyone deserves access to support, healing, and hope. Nature, travel, and good food are some of my favorite ways to recharge. Spending time outdoors and exploring new restaurants keeps me curious and connected to the world around me. More recently, joining a recreational football league has been a great way to challenge myself, build community, and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
My therapeutic emphasis is focused on creating a collaborative, open, safe, judgment-free, warm, and empathetic environment for clients. As we navigated through one of the most challenging years of a pandemic, I understand that you may feel as if there is a weight holding you down in life. If youāre looking for help improving your everyday life ā or for a more tailored therapy experience ā I believe you would be a great fit. I believe we all have an inner resilience toward life's challenges and sorrows, and by rediscovering that resilience, we can find new meaning and joy in our lives. Coronavirus has created a significant You are not alone. You are strong and together we will get through this. If you are seeking help identifying, utilizing and processing your emotions, I encourage you to contact me today. Together, weāll work on increasing awareness of emotions, separating useful from hurtful emotions and using healthy emotions to guide action.

At times, life is filled with authenticity, laughter, and fun. Other times it can be demanding, draining, and leave us feeling unsure. The highs and lows of life are normal and we all feel it, but at times we need extra support and space, and that is okay! As your therapist, my main goal is to provide an open, safe and accepting place for all to navigate life. Through deconstructing unhelpful beliefs, utilizing art and play to aid in emotional expression and increasing self-compassion, my hope is to find unique ways to support your or you child's journey to better mental health. In the space we create together, I hope to sit along side you/your child to collaborate on ways to reach the goals you have for yourself. Through an eclectic, person-centered approach I help people (ages 3-25) increase their positive engagement in life by managing life transitions, processing trauma, and assisting with general mental health care. If you were on a hike, you would want a really good fitting pair of hiking boots...think of choosing a therapist like that! If I might be that therapist for you please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions to see if we are the best fit for you. I look forward to supporting you in the best way I can.

Do you often find yourself going back and forth about making a change in your head? Is part of you wanting to make that change and part of you not feeling sure or quite ready yet? This is all part of the change process, and you are probably further along than you realize! Sometimes a new perspective and new tools can help us "get off the seesaw" and get closer to the life we want to have. I work to build a space of non-judgment and acceptance so my clients can be seen exactly as they are without fear, so we can find the path forward together. I work most often with clients who are anxious, perfectionistic, struggling to balance their work/home lives, or people who are trying to work through religious-based trauma. The services I provide are secular, racial justice allied, gender-affirming and LGBTQIA+ allied, and body positive. I have also worked with military service members, spouses, and family members for years. If you have any questions about how this affects my approach, please feel free to ask! I utilize evidenced-based approaches (ACT, DBT, EMDR) to help clients develop new skills, and lean into their current strengths so they can move toward the life they want. Maybe this is your first time in counseling, or maybe you are coming back due to recent challenges. My goal is to make sure you feel comfortable and ready to take on what you're facing together. I look forward to getting to know you, and being a part of your change process!
